80 drinking water projects left in the lurch

Kavre, March 1

As many as 80 under-construction drinking water projects have been left in lurch for want of additional budget in Kavre.

The central government had started 90 drinking water projects as part of the reconstruction plan since 2017 in the district. Of them, only 10 projects have been completed.

Technician Shiv Prasad Sharma at the Office of Drinking Water and Sanitation Division Chautara said 80 drinking water projects were left in the lurch for want of budget.

Technician Sharma said that only a few projects had received the budget of the second instalment by submitting their progress report.

With implementation of the federalism, the confusion over whether the central or provincial government would fund the projects has left many of the projects in limbo.

Drinking Water and Sanitation Division located at Kavre’s Dhulikhel has been shifted to Sindhupalchowk’s Chautara following implementation of the federal set-up.

Division Office Chief Rajendra Neupane said under-construction projects still faced confusion over which level of government would fund them.
