Nepal, Oman to sign labour pact

KATHMANDU: After a two day long discussion, Nepal and Oman have finally agreed to sign the draft of a memorandum of understanding on sending Nepali workers to the Gulf destination.

The meeting between government officials of both the countries concluded with an agreement to sign the pact by the respective labour ministers soon.

Ram Prasad Ghimire, joint secretary at the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security, said that Nepal has been able to negotiate with Oman to send migrant workers at zero-cost.

He informed that the Omani government will bear all the cost of Nepali migrant workers including security screening charge, visa fee and two-way airfare, among others.

It will also cover workplace safety, insurance and measures to prevent labour exploitation and equal treatment will be given to Nepali migrant workers with regard to health insurance and access to justice.
