The vandal who wrote “BIRD GOD” in massive, ornate letters on the famed Grand Army Plaza arch says his great-great-grandfather told him to write the enigmatic message.
Denis Shelagin, 36, said his ancestor told him what to do in a letter written nearly six decades ago, according to a criminal complaint.
