The murder of George Floyd on May 25, 2020, prompted a national reckoning on race and policing, sparking a series of reforms in police departments across the country and forcing businesses, celebrities and athletes to confront their own racist past. But as much as the caught-on-tape killing shined a new light on a centuries-old crisis, the people best equipped to create change have not shown the same urgency.
