Coronavirus variant dubbed ‘mu’ is of new interest to WHO for potential to evade immunity

Yet another coronavirus variant is catching the World Health Organization’s eye, this one with a potential for evading vaccine protection. On Monday WHO added “mu,” first identified in Colombia last January as B.1.621, to its “variant of interest” list for its “constellation of mutations that indicate potential properties of immune escape,” the international body said in its weekly epidemiological update on the coronavirus pandemic after detecting it in 39 countries.
