Wildfires have torched up to 20% of Sequoia tree population in just more than a year

Thousands of giant sequoia were torched in a pair of lightning-sparked wildfires that ripped across California’s Sierra Nevada this year, ultimately contributing to a devastating death toll accounting for nearly a fifth of the tree’s population.
