U.S. COVID death toll nears 300,000 as country readies for vaccinations

The United States is expected to hit two strikingly different milestones this week. As the first doses of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine arrive at medical facilities across the U.S., with the first New Yorker receiving a shot just after 9 a.m. Monday, the country’s rapidly growing death toll was approaching 300,000, according to Johns Hopkins University.
